Greetings Ayinde
I think it is difficult to have a "rational" discussion when some are giving broad sweeping generalizations about herb usage, whether pro or con.
Personally, I think it depends on the person using it. No one can speak for others when it comes to their views on herb and whether it is beneficial or detrimental to them.
As you know, the use of plants, fungi, tree bark, etc., has been used by indigenous cultures as a sacrament for eons. In most of the circumstances, the substance is said to get one closer to the "gods". Since god or gods are thought to reside in heaven/sky, one is said to get "high".
My first encounter with herb was like many cases, used out of ignorance and recreation.
When I was introduced to the Rastafari movement, I started smoking to clear the mind so to speak. It allowed me to read between the lines, or see the truth shrouded in lies.
Now, I dont need the herb to do those things for me.
I smoke much less now and use it to relax and contemplate. Some times it is good to be able to forget the stresses of Babylon for a moment of tranquility/peace of mind. Some find this by reading. Some by gardening. Some by yoga. etc etc.
As Gman said, too much is abuse. Too much of anything can be harmful.
And plus we must not forget that it is illegal in Babylon. So one's freedom is put at risk as well.
Peace
