the book of coming forth by day is an esoteric text which deals with I and I - meaning it is about levels of consciousness that one attains as one is on the journey of knowing oneself.
when one looks at ancient African cultures it becomes apparant that elements of spirituality had to do with entering different realms of consciousness through various means. in the African context - the Book of Coming Forth By Day is in a way a written guidebook to the journey. We hear of medicine men and healers and spiritual elders in African cultures who are intiated into these arts and are the ones who are gone to for council because of their ability to tap into higher streams of consciousness.
It is from THIS perspective that the root of religion comes from - that is why it is hard for us here in the West to grasp spirituality and religion on this level because our indoctrination and coginitive dissonance keeps us from seeing on this level.
It is my idea that this is what Rastafari people in the bush were tapping into when communing with nature and learning to listen to the Higher I. When the bible is read from this Higher perspective is when the Rasta truths can be gleaned.
