Well, like I already said I can offer what knowledge I do have when the moment arises in a reasoning, often a thing comes in like a revelation! Smile, like someone asked me once why my children have a Scottish name. Explaining that the name belonged to the slave ship owner and my children's ancestors were considered that man's property.
That is both a small and a large thing - if it helps someone begin to see the truth.
I work in my community helping youths and their parents to make sense of community funding around football. Footballl contains an incredible amount of supremicist posturing, violence and discrimination from top to bottom - there are few black managers, coaches, administrators (plenty of players).
I am currently writing a book which has, at its heart, my own life in Brixton, UK, bringing up four children in a racist system and everything that entails.
I also work with expatriate engineers! Who seem to fall into two groups - those who still believe in 'Great' Britain and her imperialist roots and those who see the otherness of cultures within which they work and embrace (or try to) the difference - wishing to learn. Both groups have supremacist tendencies I try to offer both another way of seeing things based on what I have learned over many years.
All these things have their limitations.
As I said before challenging mindsets often brings much hatred and resentment from my own people - I am often rocked to the core at the resistance. But in one such encounter, a man who was vehement in his objections to what I was saying ended the reasoning by saying that it is known that Africa is on the ascendency so in his opinion it didn't much matter how racist people were today because our positions would be reversed in the end!
