Their reaction is predictable. Distortions to outright lies are peddled in their attempt to maintain the anti-dark-skinned Black African status quo. The idea of dark-skinned Blacks being the ideal example for upliftment threatens their concept of a place in the Universe. Of course, their feelings of being threatened stem from insecurity. They are unaware that their feelings of worth are annexed to the degradation of the dark-skinned Blacks. It appears that 'many' Blacks have internalized racism to the extent that they too are threatened by the advancement of dark-skinned Blacks.
