Ah, you know the story of the Macaby? I do not celebrate Hannukah myself- I doubt there are any African Israelites that do for the simple fact that it came up long after our dispersion. Same with Purim.
However, I do draw a lot of inspiration from the original Matisyahu- from the fact that he chose not to surrender what is sacred in the face of a powerful political entity.
