To some extent terms like "white" and "black" are relative. They mean different things in different parts of the world. Some Russians use the term "black" to describe Georgians, Armenians and Chechens because they are slightly darker than the Russians.
Though you describe yourself as white, many white USA Americans don't regard Mexicans as white. A great many "Latin" Americans have a partly Native American appearance. It seems that the Spanish and Portuguese settlers in what is now Latin America interbred with the native population far more than the North Europeans did in the USA and Canada.
Europeans tend to use the term "white" to only mean Europeans. However, it is also true that many Arabs, Turks and Iranians consider themselves to be white, though they wouldn't be considered white by Europeans. I once met an Algerian man who seemed quite offended by any suggestion that he wasn't white.
