In the early days of the Rastafari people's resistance against babylon and their slave trading activities, there used to be great dramatic manifestations, when Rastafari people were molested by the police. Normaly when a Rastafari person was arrested, the entire period of the arrest was used as a public platform to agitate for truth and Justice for African people everywhere. One thing which was really troublesome to the police and the courts, was that some Rastafari people would not give their legal slave trading names to the police when asked what were their names, but would give names like Ras Ezekel, Ras Jeremiah, Ras Isiah, Ras Amos, Ras Earthquake, Ras Lightening, Ras Fire, Ras Whirl Wind and so many others which the police figures could not really be their names. A day in court with Rastafari people of these nature, were days of resistance, self determination as well as great amusement, for the many ordinary spectators who would definately attend court just to see and hear, how the Rastafari people would speak to the judge. In most of the cases, while the Judges and other offices of the court were trying to talk about the charges, Rastafari people were talking about slave trading activities, and about Africans being brutalized across the middle passage to the western hemisphere, or maybe asking when are you going to let my people go? or maybe asking why are you all trying to put shackles on our hands and feet, or may ask why do the heathen rage and you people imagine these vain things, or be saying many passages from the bible, but to be very truthful, most time the case would not be able to be tried in the manner which it was planned to be tried by the police ans courts, the Judge would most time loose his temper and sentence them for contempt of the court, and be glad to get rid of them, and consider them as mad people, since as they were taken away, they would normaly shout for lightening and thundering, which would echo loudly in the court building. This is just a memory to remind you all that Rastafari people, were very fearless in the early days, and they have broken down many great bariers and built many bridges of self determination and social Justice, upon which we are all walking today.
