Ras Kass is a mediocre "underground" hip hop mc.
The lyrics are from the track "Nature of the Threat" off his debut LP, Soul on Ice.

This is a great history lesson as far as hip hop lyrics are concerned, but the conclusion he reaches in the final verse that "all whites must be perceived as potential predators" is reactionary and hateful.
I don't deny the effects of white colonialism and oppression throughout history, but the position that all whites possess this dominator impulse over peoples of darker skin colors is as prejudiced and extreme as the Ku Klux Klan.

I think Ras Kass is a pretty good MC myself, and I like this song... heard it years ago. I don't have a problem with the whitey-baiting, that's people speaking from their experience whether you agree with it or not (for the record I have a fair number of white friends, especially my dad).
I do think the stuff about thanksgiving and Turkey is unintentionally hilarious. Dude definitely needs to get his facts straight. Good song though in my opinion.

Just some general comments on the issue.

Given the lessons of history, many blacks have learnt very very painfully that whites must be perceived as potential predators. Black people now would be very wise not to trust whites just so, given the history of White treatment of non-white people. Those who label this prejudiced and extreme are entitled to their opinion, but such Eurocentric reactions doesn't negate the fact that Africans have a right to feel that way, and have good reasons not to trust whites. There is nothing wrong with generalizations once the generalization is valid. Generalization don't have to dictate to us how we should act, rather just provide guidelines or hints of certain things. So within the context, i see nothing wrong with Whites being labelled as 'potential predators'.

So, just for the sake of argument, you wouldn't have a problem with labelling black men as "potential criminals"? Because statistically speaking, the generalization that black men in the US are inherently criminal in nature is supported.
Does this justify the generalization? Should I write a song about how black men can't be trusted because they might rob you, kill you, and rape your wife? How would that go over?

Just trying to put things in perspective.

As long as you include the definition of "criminal" and scales of criminal acts...and the reason why the African males in the U.S. react to their conditions in such a way.

-Colonization/slavery/genocide/crimes against humanity vs. muggings/petty dope dealing/murder in the act of a petty crime.

-The shituation of poverty from racism and oppression of a shitstem geared to maintaining the racist status quo...

-criminal doesn't refer as a statistic to the continent of Africa or the rest of the diaspora so therefore "inherently" wouldn't be the correct word to use...can one say the same about European behavior abroad?(I don't think so)  

We are talking about the global perspective of crimes against humanity here...try to use it as a base the next time you want to argue about generalizing for "criminal acts". The crimes of impoverished people pale in comparrison when looked at from this perspective. You are forgetting the all important class perspective in your analysis. Is the crime because of poverty, or race? Were the motivations for crimes against humanity by European oppressors poverty or greed ?

By the way, the 'rape of your wife' thing....Who has been historically raping women GLOBALLY again?! I think you must have forgot! Most Africans in America have a hard time forgetting, every time we look in a mirror...it somehow reminds SEVERAL of us!  I also don't think too many European women are getting raped by African men...They haven't lost their minds! Lynching wasn't that long ago!

I don't necessarilly agree with everything Rass Kass said(some of historical facts are off)...but I do agree with Tyehimba's statement.

Would the Native Americans be considered racist for not trusting European/White people?
Or would they be considered foolish to have blind trust?

Sorry but a stereotype is a stereotype. We don't get to apply stereotypes to others and somehow negate stereotypes against ourselves just because we don't like them.

A stereotype/generalization by the oppressor and those of the oppressed are different because one is developed to futher oppress, and the other is developed out of fighting oppression. Oppressed people would be stupid NOT to generalize. Oppressors generalize to futher subjugate others. Motive is everything in this instance. Us oppressed people must generalize for our own safety...It sucks, but that's the way it is. If you don't like it, fight the oppression with us, so that generalizations won't be necessary. Don't fight the symptons(generalizations), fight the cancer(oppression).
