Today is 'Africa Liberation Day' Today - Tuesday, May 25 - is African Liberation Day a statutory public holiday in Ghana Black countries and communities all over the world will be holding events designed to analyse the present condition of the “Black World,” and to celebrate our long and difficult freedom struggle. African Liberation Day is an official “day of significance” for all black nations and communities. It was established by 32 African heads of state at the founding conference of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1963. It is a day on which conscious black people all over the world symbolically join hands and rededicate themselves to the struggle for genuine national independence, sovereignty and self-reliant development. Post by: emmanuel on May 25, 2004, 11:45:13 AM Quote B.L.A.C.K The Black Liberation of African, Continent and Kingdoms Home and abroad, where ever home may be Here or back-a-yard, home and abroad. We must liberate ourselves We got to liberate our minds We can’t depend on no one else To grant us, free thinking minds Learn the ways of Babylon, don’t get caught up in it Babylon exist on, why don’t you know On the edge of the bottomless pit Don’t fall it, don’t fall in it B.L.A.C.K The Black Liberation of African, Continent and Kingdoms Home and abroad, where ever home may be Here or back-a-yard, home and abroad. Remember who you are, remember where you’re from Remember what we are, remember what has been done Chances are, but we’re not here by chance We are not here, to fuel their romance We are not here, as fuel for their ignorance We are not here, to be their excuse We are not here, to be abused We are not here, are you there? B.L.A.C.K The Black Liberation of African, Continent and Kingdoms Home and abroad, where ever home may be Here or back-a-yard, home and abroad. We were exhausted, so we waited We recuperated, while they masturbated As they desecrated. But long enough have we waited Long enough with breath bated With bated breath have we waited Our paths of pain, still remain We the human sacrifice, became their gain We paid the price in blood on the slaughter bench of history We bare the scars, we turn the page We hold the key Past and present days shows, times to come Different days, in different ways, times to come We are not here, to fuel their romance We are not here, as fuel for their ignorance We are not here, to be their excuse We are not here, to be abused We are not here, are you there? B.L.A.C.K The Black Liberation of African, Continent and Kingdoms Home and abroad, where ever home may be Here or back-a-yard, home and abroad. THIS IS HOW I CONCIOUSLY FEEL...FROM TIME...ONE LOVE MY PEOPLE:..PEACE!! Title: Re: Today is AFRICAN LIBERATION DAY! Post by: Oshun_Auset on May 26, 2004, 09:26:52 AM Quote Ohhh wow!! Do the majority of Diaspora Blacks even try to visit the continent and give to the Motherland from their hearts? No. The majority of them could really care less. It amazes me to see them searching for their African roots living in the West. Is it because they are cowards? Anyway, I congratulate you Oshun-Auset. You will learn A LOT MORE about your roots by taking the time and effort to travel to Africa! Let's us forward African liberation day the rest of the year! We Africans must unite among ourselves and among Blacks around the world to create strong Black nations. We must preserve our lands by maintaining our own cultures, religions and racial identity. Ashe! B.K I think a lot of it is because the diaspora Africans are stuck in Afro-Centricity(dealing only with ancient history and spirituality) and know little to nothing about colonial and post colonial/current Africa. They are not Pan-Africanists. (Afro-centricity and Pan-Africanism are two different ideologies) They think their roots are in the past, not realizing their roots(although I realize colonialism has affected them) and their extended FAMILY are still alive on the Continent. I also notice a lot of the Afro-centric crowd(not to be confused with African-centered people) associate very little with people from the continent. They still often harbour an "us and them" mentality when dealing with continental Africans...It's quite frustrating and embarrassing for the rest of us who know better. Thanks for the words of encouragement Kelani! You are correct, we should live every day as liberated Africans, and do what we can for the struggle. |
