I once heard an African American Person in Hunter's Point (San Francisco Bay Area) lament the intrusion into their community of "environmetalist pimps". That is, academics and social workers who get money to "help" communities - riding on the backs of other people's suffering to make a niche for themselves often not resulting in much real benefit for the communities after the money has been spent anywhere but on the ground. This is changing. There are people with real experience interested in partnering with communities to get real work done in the form of information sharing and assistance in getting attention. Anyway, there is work to be done, huge economic opportunities and a large seat at the table for traditional culture and millenia old wisdom in farming and resource conservatiøn, coupled with carefully selected modern technological innovations that can move us along toward a superior quality of life with less mass production and consumption nonsense.
