I have a task for you. It is one that my professor for a class had us do. This isn't suppose to be some kind of chain letter or any nonsense like that. I simply thought that I'd pass along this exercise. At the end of it, our entire class was silent except for the sound of tears. You will only get out of it what you put in.
Here's the assignment:
On a piece of paper:
Choose four specific people in your life. (Mother, father, sister, best friend, etc.) -This has to be specific. You can't just write "family"
Choose four physical objects that you own or have a goal to own. (Car, home, boat, shoes, etc.)
Choose four values or beliefs that you have. (God, love, honor, friendship, etc.)
Finally, choose four inanimate objects that you enjoy (Sunsets, reading, music, walking barefoot, etc)
Now, this is the hard part. Make sure you can see the entire list at the same time.
Choose 5 things to get rid of. NoteNote: Once you choose to get of it, you can not have it back. You can not trade it in and you will have no memory of whatever you choose to get rid of.
Now, choose 4 more things to throw away. Is it easy to throw away that new car you wanted? Remember, that you cannot have any of these back.
Next, choose 3 more things to get rid of. Can you choose to throw away a sunset and not even have the memory of it? You can never remember that sunset.
Choose 2 more things to throw away. How do choose one person or item over another?
Finally, out of the two remaining choices, pick one to throw away.
Now, what was your final item? Was it God? Was it your significant other? Or, was it a value?
If you put a lot into this, and were like me, you're probably feeling slightly exhausted and weary. I realized that what I thought was important, didn't seem to matter so much. Like I said, you only get out of this, what you put into it.
But, I have one more thing. What are you going to do, now that you see what is left? Personally, I prayed. Then I called my mother and told her that I loved her. So, what are you going to do and why are you waiting?
It is completely up to you, but it would be interesting to see what others final item/person was.
Thank you
