Perhaps foolishly the writer is blogging after long hiatus.
Kaya in the japanese language refers to a most excellent traditional form of hemp mosquito netting going back centuries. it has a golden color. It can be found today in fancy inns where patrons pay to sit under the kaya reminding them of pre war days when it was in every house and the whole family would retreat under it/ draping their tatami rooms to escape the Ka (mosquito). Sort of synchronicity that Bob Marley made such a great album by the same name, Kaya.
Certainly as a cottage industry this would be of benefit over insecticide laced nylon nets for babies to chew on and mothers to breath near. Some enterprising individual could no doubt learn precisely how to rette and weave the fibers into Kaya from some nihonjin source. I think it is a little tricky to do.
It could also be used as window and door screening. Some years ago the writer designed a method for screening any opening regardless of construct or surface imperfections on hut or home using used rubber tire strips, cheap dry wall screws and whatever screen is available, be it Kaya, or plastic. You do need a 12V cordless drill with Phillips bit.
No doubt the international red cross will take the idea, as they did with the writer's research and consultation on pond construction in Kenya and use it to gain converts, withholding it from unrepentant sinner/non christians. Of course they are f%%king the whole thing up. I learned about this only recently. The international Red Cross the writer has unpleasant experience with. They sent some flunky to Waisomo village in fiji some years ago who spread around hard liquor and cigarettes by the carton to ruin the place while he set himself up like a king in the head mans home, where they served him like royalty. That was some years back. That M.F. was known there as "the Dutchman", because that is what he was, a self proclaimed professional photographer for the International Red Cross. Enlightened youth kicked him out of there, fortunately. Just whining. n.
