From what I heard when reasoning with a certain Ras elder, HIM had footmen by His bed at night. This was because Haile I used to talk in His sleep and these scribes would write down what he said in his sleep. What was then written down is what HIM used in his speeches and meetings.

I cannot give you a source for this as I say, I heard it from an elder, but I have no reason to doubt the Ras.
