More than 1,000 Kenyans have been killed and hundreds of thousands driven from their homes in the violence that broke out at the end of 2007 after Mwai Kibaki stole the elections.
It was the Kenyan Land and Freedom Army, also known as the "Mau Mau" that first raised the battle cry of "Uhuru!" and inspired Africans around the world with their uncompromising fight for freedom and independence.
But neo-colonialism was imposed on Kenya in the form of its first president Jomo Kenyatta, and today the people of Kenya continue to suffer from the theft of their land and labor.
Andrew Mwangura - trade union organizer, journalist, and African Internationalist - is one of a growing number of African revolutionaries determined to complete the struggle for genuine independence and unity for Africa. He has traveled to the U.S. to participate in a process initiated by the African People's Socialist Party to strengthen and unify the international African revolution. He will speak to the public:

Mwangura worked over ten years aboard foreign-ocean going vessels as a Seafarer. Today he is the Programs Coordinator of the Seafarers Assistance Programs, which offers humanitarian assistance to all seafarers; monitors, documents and investigates seafarers' rights abuses in Africa; and collects and disseminates information on maritime activities in Africa.
He is also a leader in the Amnesty International Mombasa Group and a former Organizing Secretary of the Seafarers Union of Kenya.
Critical of the current state of the labour movement, Mwangura says, "I believe that by having strong labor movement in place, it will be possible to bring about positive changes desired by Africans in their respective countries as well as their fellow countrymen in the Diasporas."
Mwangura's speaking engagements in the U.S. will address imperialism's strategy of imposing neo-colonialist leaders to avert the genuine liberation of African people. He will be joined in Florida by Chernoh Alpha M. Bah, Director of the Africanist Movement. These two events are titled "In the U.S., Kenya, or Sierra Leone - Black President Doesn't Equal Black Power".
