Night is:  Ma-ta (an amharic dictionary or phrasebook would help you out with the pronunciation)

As far as the name Micheal goes, it is a commonly used name for the angel Micheal, which phonetically is pronounced something like MEEKAIL.  I definatly encourage getting yourself an Amharic dictionary, or if you're really interested, there are online courses, and even Amharic programs for your computer, or even Amharic on cassette courses, check it out.
