Abortion Causing 'Black Genocide,' Activists Say
By Randy Hall
CNSNews.com Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) - During America's commemoration of Black History Month, some pro-life activists are charging that legalized abortion has led to a "black genocide" of more than 14 million unborn African-American babies. They condemn, in particular, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, whose president Gloria Feldt announced last week that she's resigning.

"For every five African-American women who get pregnant, three have an abortion," Clenard Childress Jr., director of the Northeast Chapter of the Life Education And Resource Network, told the Cybercast News Service. "This is a horrific injustice to women, and it's decimating our communities."

Childress runs the BlackGenocide.org website, which quotes a number of disturbing statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

-- Since 1973, more than twice as many blacks have died from abortion than from heart disease, cancer, accidents, violent crimes and AIDS combined;

-- Blacks make up about 12 percent of the population in the United States but account for 32 percent of the abortions; and

-- About 1,450 black infants are aborted every day in this country.

Childress, who also serves as senior pastor of the New Calvary Baptist Church in Montclair, N.J., said he started the site "to tell the truth about what abortion is, to expose the lies of the abortion industry and their targeting of unsuspecting young women -- especially African-Americans -- and to let others know the horrifying statistics of the abortion rate for blacks in this nation."

The website got its name in part from a speech delivered in 1977 by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who now states that he supports abortion rights.

"Abortion is black genocide," Jackson said in 1977. "What happens to the mind of a person and the moral fabric of a nation that accepts the aborting of the life of a baby without a pang of conscience?" he asked.

Later in that speech, Jackson wondered how America might be affected 20 or 30 years down the road. Childress said we now know the answer to Jackson's question. "You can see for yourself. We have a genocidal mindset. There's no sanctity of life; there's no reverence for life itself," Childress said.

'Death culture'

Another reason for Childress' use of the term "black genocide" stems from what he sees as the sociological impact of abortion.

"Many poor children see their mothers, often in a single-parent situation, begin to have their stomachs rise and talk happily about having a child," Childress said. "But at some point, there's no more talk of a baby. And the children hear the mother say: 'I got rid of it.' These children, often at a very young age, hear or see or understand that this life, which was once being celebrated, has been terminated."

This is a link to a site which holds some abortion photos because If you haven't seen what
abortion does, then you will never understand what abortion actually is.in my opinion there are too graphic to be placed here toomany tears and hearts it would hurt by the sight of these photos.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality.

I think abortion is a crime it should be considered as murder, it’s never somebody choice no matter the circumstance to take an innocent life.

There is always a price to pay for spilling blood especially when it’s an innocent life

[. "You can see for yourself. We have a genocidal mindset. There's no sanctity of life; there's no reverence for life itself," Childress said.

peace all.

this article presents some misguided information. there is a genocide happening in Sudan right now. another recently was committed in Rwanda.  massacres have been enacted on our people in Haiti, DRC, and Sierra Leone with tragic regularity.
thus we should not use language of extreme death and violence for shock value and support rhetorical strategies.

whatever ones stance on abortion is, we should understand that the prison industrial complex, police brutality, drugs infused in Black communities, the feminization of poverty, lack of real healthcare and education are much more threatening to us a people. everyday our children experience this reality and this shows them clearly that Black life is undervalued.

and what of the "fatherless" children, who underloved and undernourished and undereducated walk the streets of our communitities from Port au Prince to Kingston to LA? that is one of many true crisises in our communities, the cultural acceptance of or apathy toward the many Black men who not provide consistent fathering to their progeny. Black women, in face of great odds, are mothering, have been and continue to. no disrepect to the Black men but in a white ruled media that loves to bash Black women, i am not feeling this assault.

furthermore, we have many children, alive and somewhat well, that need assistance, protection and support. what is Childress doing for them? we must ask ourselves what is wrong this society that force Black women to terminate what should a wonderful addition to an already strong and loving family. if we can dismantle or at least resist the instuitions that systematically destroy Black families perhaps abortion numbers would decrease.

lastly, these clinics such as Planned Parenthood, even with their promblematic histories, have been the few spaces that offer inexpensive treatment for STD's, AIDS testing and counseling, gyn services, birth control options, preventive care on breast cancer and fibroids and other diseases that for Black and/or poor women are real threats.

folks need to get real. while all the various wars on the planet are raging, and while the white supremacist capitalists are imperializing, i don't think its Black women who be should accused of having a genocidal mindset when it if we who are the victims of rape, violence, abandonment and poverty everyday, world wide.

fight the real enemies and let's get free.

Peace erzulie. Very strong and intelligent comment. If you are a woman do you consider yourself a feminist?
