The Prince, by Niccolo Machiavelli
I really enjoyed this book. It deals with power and position. Mainly how to get the power and then how to maintain it. Machiavelli speaks from his years of experience in the political arena and also draws on his extensive study of history, events, nations, and great men, all the way back to ancient history.
The author shares his insight into power politics in the context of the real world, the dog eat dog rat race that it is. Its clear that Machiavelli prefers love and liberty, but is cognizant of the fact that men are evil and talks about how a Prince/President/General/Leader has got to be and conduct himself not to get knocked off his position.
There is much more to this book. In general I'd say its a classic. It gets the mind thinking about how to win this game in the real world, as individuals, as nations, as people.
