Trafigura ends bid to keep toxic waste report secret

Lawyers for oil traders Trafigura finally abandoned attempts to keep secret a scientific report about toxic waste dumping in west Africa, that was shown to the Guardian.

Looking at the toxic waste that was illegally tipped in the Ivory Coast at its biggest city Abidjan - this was because the company, Trafigura, went for a cheap option and offloaded the waste in Africa instead of Europe. Trafigura the company involved has always denied that the chemical waste was dangerous, but analysis by Dutch authorities revealed it to be lethal.
